Arweave is a permanent, decentralised data storage solution. Unlike traditional centralised storage providers, Arweave is a community-driven project that uses the blockchain to secure data for the indefinite future. The benefit of such a platform is data storage that is permanent, low-cost, and censorship-free.
The AR token is used as a mining reward and to pay for data storage costs. Its permaweb is built on a novel version of blockchain technology called “blockweave.” In addition to adding a block at the end of the existing chain, a block is added to a previous random block. This incentivises miners to store more data because they must access previous randomised blocks to add new blocks to the chain and receive rewards.
