Hive is a decentralised proof of stake blockchain that was conceived from a fork of the STEEM blockchain. Hive was founded by a community of STEEM developers who sought to push back on the majority ownership of STEEM by its recent acquirer the Tron Foundation. Through this fork, the Hive blockchain was able to achieve and propagate its philosophy of decentralisation. The native token HIVE was airdropped to wallets of the fork’s supporters. The Hive blockchain is governed by the Decentralised Hive Fund, who use a decentralised proposal and community voting mechanism to facilitate decision making. In addition to governance and incentives, HIVE is used to make payments for transaction fees, which are redistributed in part to users who stake their HIVE on the network.
